Old Man of Storr Elopement Inspiration || Isle of Skye, Scotland

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.
— Robert Burns

I will never recover from Scotland. Those rolling green hills that erupt suddenly into snow covered mountains, black lochs, jagged cliffsides, and the waterfalls that flow around every corner creep into my mind almost every day. Everything we saw was dripping with my kind of beauty; elegant and wild, and more than a little rough. Being from the Pacific Northwest, it felt like a bit of home across the world. The sun rose leisurely after 8am, and was gone by 4pm. Even though the sun followed us for nearly two weeks, it never strayed too far from the horizon, and it never seemed to dry the earth beneath it. Those narrow, winding roads from town made my heart race with excitement and a little bit of fear everywhere we went. And, even though the hike to Storr was a breeze compared to the ones I know and love in the Pacific Northwest, the biting wind stole the air straight from my lungs. That wind that never seemed to stop, ever. It stung our faces and numbed our fingers. But it was beautiful. It was exhilarating. From this mountainside, looking out towards Loch Leathan, Raasay, and Rona, you couldn’t help but find yourself breathless anyway.

I am so wildly in love with Scotland.

I’ve been dragging my feet on sharing this adventure elopement inspiration because my love for this place means that I want to hold it close to my chest, like my own little secret. But maybe you all, like me, need a little adventure inspiration. Maybe your wedding plans got derailed by the pandemic, and you’re finding yourself pivoting to an elopement. Maybe, just maybe, you need a little bit of this wild landscape in your life right now.
