Laid Back North Cascades Elopement || Mt. Baker, WA || Madison + Alec

I remember the weather was calling for rain in June. The ceremony was at Mt. Baker, and in the North Cascades you have to be ready for just about anything. But Madison and Alec were so, so lucky. As we got everyone in position and prepared for the first look, the clouds separated and the sun looked down on them. I remember the smell of the dirt and melting snow, the warmth of the sun on my skin, and the peaceful quiet surrounding us up there. And that feeling is kind of their relationship in a nutshell; they’re both such warm and kind people, and they surrounded themselves with so much love, not just on their wedding day but every day. Their wedding was a community effort, the product of all of the connections they’ve created in their lives. Friends came together to assemble bouquets with flowers from Free Range Flowers in Bellingham, or set up the reception at Boundary Bay Brewery. Everything about this day was filled with so much intention and care, and it was one of the rare occasions when I’ve watched a couple remain present and focused on one another the entire day. Every detail was so representative of their relationship, and their spirit. Handmade details came together to illustrate their love of mushroom hunting, like the earrings Alec made for Madison out of a dried mushroom, the groomsmen’s handmade bolo ties, and the wood-burned welcome sign. And of course I can’t forget the macrame table runners that Madison spent countless hours knotting.

Madison and Alec, I am so lucky to know you both, and I am so very lucky to have gotten to stand beside you as you embarked on this new adventure together. I know this blog post is late, but it means that we can reflect on what a wild year this has been for you two. From getting engaged and then married, to new jobs, promotions, and a move to a new city, you two stand beside each other with strength, support, compassion, and love. I do declare.
